Another rare West Nile Virus case has been reported in Nevada County. This one is non-fatal and younger, with the victim only described as under 50 years old. County Health Officer Ken Cutler says only around 20-percent of people bitten by an infected mosquito show any symptoms, including this case…
Cutler says this person is recovering. He says there’s no clear reason why Nevada County has had so few cases over the years. But the prolonged dry weather could change that this year…
So far, though, the number of human cases reported statewide is similar to last year, or 36. But there ended up being around 800 last year, meaning the West Nile season isn’t close to peaking yet. The fatal case in Nevada County, about a month ago, was the first time someone had ever died here.
