Applegate Fire Update 6:00 PM

New estimate size of the Applegate Fire  is 350-400 acres. 10-15 acre spot fire at Codfish is starting to burn up the hillside.

CALFIRE Information Officer, Joanne Cartoscelli says Multiple resources are attacking the blazes with a focus on the eastern edge.

Two DC-10 air tankers are supporting the fire suppression efforts along with other air resources.
Currently 250 plus personnel are working to contain the fires.

Nevada County Consolidated Fire Brush 89 and Grass Valley Engine 2 responded as part of a 5 engine Nevada County immediate need Strike Team to the Applegate Incident. Off duty firefighters returning to work are augmenting staffing.
At last report the Strike Team was being deployed to the line at an unknown location.

Traffic on Highway 80 is bumper to bumper as drivers are trying to find alternate ways around the area.

Also… Auburn Regional Park at 3770 Richardson Dr. in Auburn. Per Placer County, the shelter in Auburn is still the main shelter. Animals can be taken to the Auburn Fairgrounds.
he fires were first reported just before 1:30 this afternoon with reports of a vehicle being the cause of the multiple fires.
