More light has been shed on the Cascade Shores shooting death investigation, although there are still a number of unanswered questions. Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal says an autopsy shows that 36-year-old Paul Scola was shot several times with a handgun. But he says the fatal wound was actually self-inflicted from a shotgun. Royal says Scola then hid behind a door jamb, where the shotgun went off. It’s not known if Scola deliberately shot himself or the shotgun went off accidentally. A juvenile was also inside the home. No one else was injured. Royal says Scola was known to the residents, but declined to release more specifics at this time…

Royal says the Sheriff’s Department does not anticipate making an arrest, but the investigation will eventually be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for potential prosecution.
