These warm days don’t have many people thinking about flu season. But with the month changing to October on Thursday, it’s already time to get protected.  Public Health Officer, Doctor Brian Evans, is offering five free community clinics in the Western County, starting on Friday, at the Gold Community Senior Center on Colfax Avenue in Grass Valley…

Seniors, of course, are usually the most vulnerable. Everyone six months and older is recommended to get a vaccine. But parents of children under 3 should contact their primary care provider about vaccination options. Meanwhile, Doctor Evans says it’s too early to tell how strong this season’s strain will be.

 Evans also notes that a flu vaccine cannot give you the flu. He says choosing a shot is one of the simplest steps you can take to protect yourself and your family this fall and winter. October is a good time before illnesses typically increase, including around the holiday season, when more people are cooped up inside.  And you’re also asked to wear a short sleeve shirt if you can, to make a vaccination easier.
