A Lot More 24-Hour Drop Boxes For November Elections

Nevada County is expanding 24-hour ballot drop boxes to nine locations as voter preference shifts away from traditional mail. Residents can find their nearest site using the new interactive map online.
With mail-in balloting beginning today (Mon.) for the November elections, the Nevada County Elections Department has taken note of the increasing preference for using drop boxes for mail ballots instead actually mailing them. So Public Information Officer Lisa Renner says they’re expanding access to the number of drop boxes that are available 24 hours from four in the June Primary to nine for fall races…
Renner says 65-percent mail-in voters now use drop boxes, with 32-percent relying on the Post Office. That’s up 15-percent from the November 2024 elections…
The four additional drop boxes that are now available 24 hours in the Western County are Grass Valley and Nevada City Halls, at the Sierra College main parking gate, and outside the Penn Valley Library. A total of 18 locations are available in the entire county, including Truckee. The Gold Miners Inn has been dropped as a location. To find a drop box nearest you, enter your address into an interactive map. The address is “www-dot-Nevada CountyCa-dot-gov-forward slash voter map”. Renner also notes that about eight-percent of in-person voting is still done in the county.
