This has been a very busy year for the historical Grass Valley Library – Royce Branch. The County began by replacing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramp on the north side of the building. The old ramp was built in the late 1970’s and has served the citizens well. The new ramp follows the same design and is of treated wood construction with a new black iron railing and ball type post caps.
The next project undertaken was to paint the exterior of the building as it hasn’t been painted since the 1980’s. The new paint followed the same historic color scheme. To ensure the longevity of the finished product, we used an elastomeric paint for a water tight seal. There were also some fifty panes of glass replaced by Moule Paint and Glass.
The final project for the year was the installation of new fencing around the Library and Elisabeth Daniels Park property. The new, historic looking fence replaced the existing chain link fence. This project was funded by the City of Grass Valley and managed by the Nevada County Facilities Management Division. The iron fence is five feet high with decorative rings and ball caps and will help with security issues at the Library and Park. A set of stairs connecting the Park and the Library were installed that will allow for a larger venue for Library and community events.
One remaining exterior improvement to the Grass Valley Library will be the installation of a new ADA access ramp to the lower children’s section of the Library. This project will be completed as soon as a funding is identified.
