Grass Valley Police and the Coalition for a Drug Free Nevada County held a drug take back event Saturday. Local residents were invited to go through their medicine chests and drawers for unused or expired prescriptions so they can be safely disposed during a event. Grass Valley Police Captain Rex Marks says they collected well over 170 pounds of medications from the 3 locations at K-Mart, Rite Aid and Save Mart safely disposing of potentially dangerous drugs and to help prevent pill abuse and theft.
Marks wants to remind residents that Pills should not be flushed down toilets or put into the garbage as they can pollute the environment, and they stay out of the hands of those who do not have a prescription.
Pills collected during the event will be disposed of properly at an official state disposal site where the medications are incinerated.
