FOOD BANK GETS MORE PGE FUNDING HELP

The PG&E Corporation Foundation is awarding $15,970 to the Food Bank of Nevada County to help fight rising food insecurity during the critical holiday season and emergency periods.
With food insecurity now affecting one in five Californians, the PG and E Corporation Foundation is, once again, providing some financial help for organizations on the front lines of hunger relief. And that includes another 15-thousand-970 dollars for the Food Bank of Nevada County. Executive Director Brett Bentley says it’s earmarked for helping to offset costs for low-income and struggling residents who may be impacted disproportionately during emergency situations and natural disasters. They do have a stockpile of some food and fresh drinking water set aside…
And Bentley notes that the allotment comes as food banks get
into their busiest time of the year, which is the holiday season…
The California Association of Food Banks says the growing food insecurity comes despite the state producing nearly half of the nation’s fruits and vegetables. The Foundation says grant amounts consider a county’s poverty and unemployment levels, using the California Department of Social Services’ formula, to promote equity among counties with higher needs.
