Pile Burning Permit Suspension Lifted

Cal Fire has lifted burn permit suspensions in Nevada, Yuba, Placer, and Sierra counties. Residents are reminded to check local air quality regulations and follow safety guidelines before starting debris burns.

In another sign that the wildfire danger is lessening, the burn permit suspension for Nevada, Yuba, Placer, and Sierra Counties has been lifted. Cal Fire Public Information Officer Mary Eldridge reminds property owners to make sure it’s a permissible burn day, by contacting your local Air Quality Management District Office. Agriculture burns must also be inspected prior to burning until the end of the peak season, which should be soon. And inspections may also be required for residential pile burns. Permits will still be required until cooler temperatures, higher humidity, and the chance of winter weather diminishes the wildfire threat…

State, Federal, and Local land management and fire agencies will also be utilizing this same window of opportunity to conduct prescribed burns aimed at improving forest health and resiliency. Cal Fire says only dry, natural vegetative material, such as leaves, pine needles, and tree trimmings may be burned. The residential burning of trash, milled lumber or other debris is not allowed. Also, don’t burn on windy days and residential piles should be no larger than four feet in diameter and in height. Other requirements include clearing a 10-foot diameter down to bare soil around your piles, have a shovel and a water source nearby, and an adult should always be in attendance of the fire.
