With just a few days remaining to meet the deadline to file the signature petition with the County Clerk-Recorder’s Office, Americans for Safe Access – Nevada County is closing in on the required number of signatures needed to put a new medical marijuana ordinance on the ballot. ASA-NC Chairperson, Patricia, Smith, says that the group experienced a hiccup when the the required number of signatures grew by several hundred due to a miscalculation.

Smith says that her calculation was based upon the number of voters in the last 2010 election, but did not include the number of voters that participated in the election and did not cast a vote for Governor. Smith said that additional number was a surprise, but not insurmountable.

As of Thursday morning Smith says they are within a couple hundred signatures and are putting on a push to complete the gathering process by Sunday in order to submit the petition on Monday.

Smith says ASA supporters are at all of the local shopping centers collecting the final signatures. She thinks they will surpass the higher number by Friday evening, and encourages anyone who would like to support the process to sign no later than Sunday.
