The elections office will be verifying signatures over the next 30 days and then the initiative will be taken up by the Supervisors for action. The next primary election is June 2014. The date for a special election would be set by the elections office if deemed appropriate. The current Ordinance was adopted by the Board of Supervisors at the May 8, 2012 meeting an an urgency ordnance, but was never part of an election.

This is a good outcome, win or lose at the polls. Laws written by those intended to enforce them are just a little too incestuous.
Don Bessee
Given the average number of invalid signatures runs about 23% based on the CA Sec. of States recent counts it would seem that the 800 signature margin here indicates a fail on this initiative.

Yes C J we should start with the drugs we give 5 year olds so the teacher doesn't have to deal with them, then move to mom and dads liquor cabinet , next stop? mom and dads mood enhancers and don't forget the the pain pills in the bathroom. Your claim is false and hollow , no proof that
cannibis is either a gateway drug or addicting...
However, please don't let facts overcome your preconceived false notions.
Celebrate this First Amendment exercise in Democracy instead

Mr Besse
The number is 9,133, not 9,980 ,not withstanding we vetted the signatures before submission so our 15,000 gross signatures gathered covers the failure rate.
Every single signature was found on the voter rolls before submission not after. We did our home work, we know the rules which most county officials don't and we did the hard work before submitting. Mark my words, we will be voting on this issue, it won't be done in secret, there won't be money secretly spent, it won't be against the will of the governed, it will be transparent, it will be lawful and the results will not be challenged in court unlike some communities actions in this county.
However, you sound like you think you know what you are talking about so perhaps you would like to challenge to a public debate on the merits of the initiative?

Mr. Bessee, we all know how well your math abilities worked with the recent ASPOA issues, and if you consider that the ASA was able to gather well over 15,000 signatures (from what I have heard) to get their ballot measure secured, this will for the voters, and not made up stories from the Sheriff to decide.
