Attack with Hammer Leads to Arrest

A Nevada City man is in jail after he tried to kill two people with a claw hammer. Grass Valley Police Captain Rex Marks says officers responded to a Maiden Lane residence to a report of a assault on two people in the home, Friday afternoon. Captain Marks says the two victims said 36 year old Craig Hodges of Nevada City, broke into the home and started swinging the claw hammer repeatedly hitting the victims. Captain marks says emergency dispatchers could hear the fight in progress.

The Captain says Hodges was found by Officers driving a car a short distance from the crime scene.
Hodges has been taken into custody for suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and threats. Captain Marks says the hammer was recovered at the scene. The Police officers are still trying to determine what caused the vicious attack. The suspect and victims have some type of family connection. The victims received a number of blows by the hammer wielding suspect. None of the injures are considered life threatening.
