Attorneys and Sheriff Dispute Attorney-Inmate Contact

Attorneys are frustrated for lack of access to clients, and the Sheriff is maintaining security and safety as the first priority at the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility.

The sheriff says that because of budget cuts, staff reductions, prison realignment and space limitations he is providing an acceptable alternative that meets the definition of “contact visits”.

As a result, Judge Ersel Edwards will hear arguments on July 23 to make an initial ruling to either increase access via contact visits or to allow the Sheriff to continue to operate attorney visits in the current manner.

Defense attorneys  Greg Klein and Steven Munkelt have been most vocal about their concerns. Klein submitted a letter of complaint to the sheriff in April.
