An ATV Rider with a passenger and a dog on board ended up going to jail for a variety of charges following a relatively slow speed pursuit in North Sand Juan Tuesday evening. Nevada county Sheriff Captain Jeff Pettitt says the suspect rider and vehicle were spotted on Grizzly Hill Road. Neither the driver or passenger were wearing helmets.

As the vehicle turned onto the road, the deputy also spotted a small dog on the driver’s lap. The poorly running ATV ran into trouble a short time later.

The suspect, identified as 44 year old Mark Birge, was then searched and a quantity of suspected methamphetamine was located on his possession. It was also learned that Birge was driving on a suspended license. As Birge was being moved to the deputies vehicle, he made another mistake.

The deputy gathered up Mark Birge and transported im to the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility where he was booked on possession charges, evading a peace officer, resisting arrest, and driving on a suspended license.
