Auburn Area Shooter Identified

Law enforcement still trying to figure out what sparked a series of events that ended with an Auburn man dead after being shot by a Placer County sheriff’s deputy during a standoff on Sunday.

Lt John Poretti say the shooter, identified as William Everett Corson, 53,  fired “hundreds of rounds” from his Kemper Oaks Court home Sunday.
The sequence of events began a little before 11:00 AM.

The special enforcement team was called out but Corson refused to respond to hostage negotiators. At one point, early in the day, the shooter’s girlfriend was in the house.

The standoff came to a deadly end around 2:30 in the afternoon when a fire started in the house and Poretti says Corson continued shooting.

Corson’s he body and the guns were in the burning house. A number fo different fire arms were reportedly seen.

Some automatic fire was also reportedly heard but the guns are still unknown. Fire investigators have determines it was a Molotov cocktail type device that Corson used to start the fire.

Officers are trying to determine what set the subject off.

Poretti says that it is fortunate that no civilians or officers were injured in the process. Surrounding houses were riddled with bullet holes. The incident remains under investigation.
