B-L-M spokesman David Christy says while most of the focus on the bark beetle has been how to remove dead trees that are still standing, hikers need to be more aware that already fallen trees can be an issue, and maybe the ones that are still standing may not be all that healthy…

Christy says the beetle infestation is moving northward. Things are much worse in places like Tuolomne and Calaveras Counties, but Nevada County lands are getting worse. The B-L-M manages about 17-thousand acres of land in Nevada County.
