Backcountry Concerns This Winter Nevada Co

Two more rescues in the snowy Sierra backcountry had to be made in Nevada County between Saturday and Monday. Sheriff Keith Royal says both were in the Castle Peak Ridge area. The one Monday concerned a 34-year-old female hiker who ended up needing medical assistance…

Meanwhile, on Saturday there was a search and rescue of a man who got lost in whiteout conditions while crosscountry skiing. Royal says the stormy winter has meant a lot more requests for such help….

Royal says people skiing or hiking in the backcountry should also pay close attention to weather reports and avoid such activity if a storm is forecast.
