Beale Fire Update

Western Nevada County skies became hazy this (Sunday) afternoon due to a large grass fire near the Nevada and Yuba County line.  Dubbed the Beale Fire, about 1200 acres of grass land burned.  The fire started  around 3:30pm on Beale Air Force base land near Chuck Yeager Road and then spread outside the airbase.  Air attack planes from the Cal Fire base in Grass Valley made quick round trips to the Smartsville area, helping to put a perimeter around the fire so ground crews could gain full containment.  Tankers and helicopters from McClelland and Ukiah were also part of the aggressive air attack on the blaze.  Over 60 personnel will battle the blaze on the ground, and so far, no structures have been lost.
