The Bear Rivers Bruins captured the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V championship, defeating the Colfax Falcons 30-27 at Consumnes Oaks High School in Elk Grove Saturday afternoon.  The Bruins took and early 13-0 lead on two big-play touchdowns by Tre Maronic (39 yards) and Calder Kunde (93 yards), and never trailed in the game.  Though Colfax rallied and came with two by the half at 23-21.  But the Bruins controlled a hard hitting second half and secured the win with a 15 play scoring drive capped by an Austin Baze touchdown.  Baze, who was a freshman when Bear River won its last section title, also against Colfax, was in three section title games in his four years on the Bear River varsity, winning two.  As a section champ;ion, the Bruins will play one more games in two weeks against an opponent to be determined.
