In an effort to raise awareness about bees and funding for local beekeepers, BriarPatch Food Co-Op is teaming up with the Nevada County Beekeepers Association to present a weekend-long virtual screening of a film. It’s called “The Pollinators”, highlighting the critical and sometimes unheralded role the insects play in crop production. It follows migratory beekeepers, who travel across the country, transporting truckloads to farms. Association Vice-President Spencer Wingfield says stemming the decline of the bee population has been a challenge, as farming practices have been evolving…
Wingfield says some farmers have gotten away from more traditional growing methods and have relied too much on pesticides…
The online event is taking place today through Sunday, with a panel discussion following at 4pm on Sunday. But you need to register for the link by 5 this evening. The 12-dollar fee raises money for local beekeepers. The film screening was originally scheduled as an in-person event at the Nevada City Theatre last spring but was put on hold by the pandemic.
