A beloved teacher and coach at Nevada Union High school, Craig Zetterberg died suddenly Saturday as he was riding his bicycle with the Nevada Union Mountain Biking Team, apparently suffering a heart attack. The 48 year-old Zetterberg had just started riding with the NU Mountain Bike Team last October when his son joined the team. One of the Mountain Bike Team Coaches Don Hoffler says he had a chance to ride with and get to know Zetterberg .
Zetterberg also coached girls water polo and was a History teacher at Nevada Union High School. He says Zetterberg was riding with the slower riders in back during the practice ride Saturday.*
Hoffler says the Mountain Bike Team is meeting at 3:30 this afternoon , there will also be some counselors there from the High School in case team members want to talk. The Mountain Bike Team has a meet in Monterey this weekend and Hoffler says he’s pretty sure the team will want to go in honor of Zetterberg.
NU Principal Mike Blake sent a message to parents yesterday announcing Grief Counseling is being made available to students and staff on the NU Campus today .
Zetterberg leaves behind a wife, a son, and a daughter. Funeral arrangements are pending.
