The snowpack has also peaked at just the right time for supplying the water system for the Nevada Irrigation District, according to Water Operations Manager, Chip Close…
That also happened last year, when precipitation was slightly above-normal, and followed several years of drought conditions. Close says although the state may finally lift the drought emergency soon, most of the mandates are already gone…
Close says one mandate still in place requires water providers to submit costly supply reports each month. But NID has not had to hit a conservation target since 2015. In the March 29th survey, NID surveyors measured an average of 56 inches of water content on five mountain snow courses. The March 1st five-course average was 33 inches. And NID reservoirs have an overall capacity of 90%, which is 132% of average. This survey is considered the most critical of the season, with one more to be done at the end of April.
