Bill Protects Natural Disaster Victims

It’s hard to believe, but it requires a law to protect victims of natural disasters from FEMA trying to get repaid for expenses issued during times of emergency- when additional funding may have also been used to facilitate rebuilding. Congressman Doug LaMalfa says Preventing Disaster Revictimization Act is set up to do just that.

LaMalfa says the bill keeps FEMA from trying to get reimbursement of expenses from victims that also have insurance or benefit from a third party lawsuit such as what happened with PG and E and wildfire victims. He says FEMA’s actions are ridiculous.**

LaMalfa says that the bill ties FEMA’s hands when it comes to billing victims.

LaMalfa says the bill passed through the house with bipartisan vote.
