With a lot of habitat degradation in recent years, the Nevada County Resource Conservation District says one of our most beloved and useful birds is rapidly disappearing. Bluebird nesting boxes have just arrived at their office on Presley Way in Grass Valley. Executive Director Jan Blake says they started their program, with boxes for ALL kinds of birds year-round, in 2005. But THIS is a good time of year to help the bluebirds…
Blake says population growth and development is the main reason for the decline in habitat….
Blake says hundreds of nesting boxes have been placed around the county through this program. She says the cost for a bluebird box is 20 dollars..with various prices for other kinds of birds that also include smaller songbirds, owls, and wood ducks. Half of the proceeds go to the conservartion district’s wildlife education fund, with the other half returned to builders, so they can keep the program going.
