The remains of a man matching the description of a San Jose man reported missing by his wife earlier this week have been located in the vicinity of an abandoned vehicle in the Owl Creek Rd and Yuba River area. Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal says the body was located around 1:15 PM Wednesday by one of the search and rescue volunteers about 1500 feet from the vehicle which had been spotted by CHP air support.

Sheriff Royal says the family has been notified that a body matching the description of 61 year old Walter Steever was located by a volunteer while searching the rugged hillside in the area. The investigation into the man’s death is ongoing.
Sheriff Royal thanks a number of agencies across the state that assisted in the search.

Search and rescue efforts have been taking place since Monday after Mr. Steever’s family reported he had not been heard from since last Wednesday.
