October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Dr. Milisa Agness with Insight Imaging says more women are getting their mammograms now, but that wasn’t the case a decade ago. Breast cancer was continuing to increase.

Current statistics show one out of 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, but it doesn’t mean they will die from it. Dr Agness says more and more women are surviving with breast cancer.
As for getting Mammograms, Dr. Agness says women should get them every year before menopause and every other year after that.

Some women with a strong family history of Breast Cancer are taking a pro active approach and choosing to have breasts removed even though there is no cancer present, Dr. Agness says she can understand that.
