Broad Street Collision Sends Two to Hospital

An accident  this morning at 5:20 a.m. closed the northbound lanes of Highway 49 at the Broad Street exit for about an hour.  A white Ford Expedition SUV hit the attenuator barrier on the Broad Street off ramp and struck the concrete head on. CHP Officer Greg Tassone says the driver and a passenger in the vehicle were injured.

The passenger was taken to Sierra Nevada Hospital , but the driver 52 year old David Connell of Nevada City was transported to the rood center and air flighted to Sutter Roseville Trauma center. Officer Tassone says he was placed under arrest then released to the hospital for treatment.

Cal Trans was on scene repairing the damage to the attenuator barrier but highway 49 and the off ramp to Broad street are open to traffic.
