Burglar Thwarted By 14 Year Old Girl’s Call

A suspect who told  law enforcement he was a construction worker looking for work was taken into custody after allegedly trying to enter a residence by prying open a sliding door. According to Placer County Sheriff Public Information Officer Dena Erwin the suspect first knocked on the front door causing a 14 year old girl in the house to become concerned.

Mitchell-Paul-LeahyThe man, Mitchel Paul Leahy,  was hiding in the backyard when deputies arrived.
When deputies searched Leahy’s vehicle they discovered a number of other illegal items.

Erwin says that this sort of burglary is not uncommon in Granite Bay and other neighborhoods and stresses that citizens should always lock front and back doors as well as windows to deter criminal activity.
