Cabin Burns Near Purdon Crossing

NCCFD received a complaint on 8/16 from an area resident about an illegal campfire at Purdon Crossing at the Yuba River.  Firefighters  arrived to investigate the campfire complaint and learned of a separate incident from area hikers. The report was a miners cabin approximately 1 mile upstream near China Dam that had burned possibly the night before. Crews hiked up canyon and located a small cabin on private property that had been completely destroyed by fire. In addition a large spot of vegetation  was consumed by the fire. The fire was out upon our arrival. Crews insured the fire was out and established a containment line around the perimeter of the fire. NCC and BLM returned today to conduct an investigation and meet with the property owner. The fire remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact NCCFD @ (530) 273-3158.

As a reminder, we are at the height of fire season with conditions prime to carry large fires. The use of any open flame devices including campfires are currently banned on all state and federal lands.
