Cal Fire Already At Peak Wildfire Staffing

The recent record heat has prompted an even earlier peak staffing from Cal Fire for the wildfire season. The Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit’s Public Information Officer, Mary Eldridge, says it’s at least two weeks earlier than a year ago. Eldridge says peak staffing is not quite double, compared to other times of the year. So far this year, or since January first, the Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit has responded to 21 more fires than a year ago, or 174. But acreage is down, at 351, compared to 814 for the same period in 2020.
