Starting today (Monday March 31) Cal Fire is hiring additional firefighters to meet the demands of the  active fire season predicted in coming months.  Cal Fire spokesperson, Daniel Berlant says they will bring on  more seasonal firefighters this year than last year.

Even though we’ve had some recent rain Berlant says the fire activity so far this year is outpacing last year.

Berlant says Cal Fire doesn’t typically bring on seasonal firefighters until  mid to late May, and some years late June, but  here we are in March and they are already  increasing staffing .
Cal Fire continues to ask homeowners to ensure that they are prepared for wildfires by maintaining 100 feet of defensible space.
