Cal Fire Reduces Peak Wildfire Staffing

Thanks to the explosion of activity in early October, the local Cal Fire Unit ended up responding to 442 wildfires that scorched 12,822 acres. That compares to 301 wildfires in 2016 that charred only 679 acres. Eldridge says last winter’s heavy rains created a lot more fuel…

While Cal Fire is reducing peak staffing, Eldridge says they’ll continue to maintain a level of personnel to meet any potential threat, as well as the ability to strategically move resources to areas that remain at a higher threat level. Residents are also urged to take precautions with debris burns.
