Cal Fire has taken over the Nevada County Fairgrounds as their base of operation in fighting area fires. Fair CEO Rea Callender says Cal Fire is using all 83 acres of Fair-grounds property..
That camp now houses some 15-hundred firefighters. Callender says it’s amazing to see how they work and how they’re incredibly efficient. They come into the community to help us out and roll out a city within 12 hours and are fully operational.
The Main Street building is now their cafeteria, but most of the other buildings are also in use.
Callender says the RV Park is also completely full of fire engines and tents. Callender says the only thing the fairgrounds is providing is space…
The Animal Evac Unit is also still at the fairgrounds, but from a high of 350 animals, mostly horses, they are currently down to 120 animals. Callender says if needs arrive for the animals the public will be alerted through the Nevada County Fairgrounds Facebook page.
