California Has Power To Pardon Turkeys

President Obama isn’t the only one who can pardon a turkey. A national farm animal rescue group is giving all Californians a chance to save a turkey this Thanksgiving. Bruce Friedrich with Farm Sanctuary says through the “Adopt a Turkey Project” people can sponsor one of the rescued birds who live at the group’s California shelters.

Farm Sanctuary also is teaming up with the stars of the new animated movie “Free Birds.” Actors Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson are the group’s “spokesturkeys.”

For a 30-dollar donation, adopters receive a special adoption certificate that includes a photo and fun details about their new adopted turkey friend.
Friedrich says turkeys are intelligent, social animals who form lifelong bonds and possess unique abilities to communicate with one another. Farm Sanctuary has provided care for more than one-thousand rescued turkeys over the last 25 years.   Farm Sanctuary has two shelters in California. One is in Acton, near Los Angeles, and the other is in Orland, near Sacramento.
