Caltrans Says I-80 Detour Not Like the Past

Caltrans promises it won’t be anything like a project almost five years ago. A 36-million dollar Interstate 80 project begins in about a month that will require a two-night closure of I-80, and detours through Grass Valley and Nevada City. Jenkins says the closures will happen in either late May or early June. Interstate 80 will be closed in both directions from Auburn to Yuba Gap from 11pm to 5am, with traffic detoured onto Highways 49 and 20. The project involves lifting nine overcrossings to meet federal standards…

The entire project won’t be completed until the fall of next year, but will only require the one-time overnight closure. Caltrans has launched a website about the project, called ‘raise 80 dot-com’ (www.raise80.com).
