Candidates Field Questions From City Council

The Grass Valley City Council has a tough job ahead of them-picking their next member. At last night’s meeting, the council conducted open interviews with three prospective candidates to fill the vacancy created by Terry Lamphier’s resignation last month. The three candidates had to answer five questions from the council, and two from the public. With financial re-organization and layoffs on the agenda later in the meeting, the first question was ‘what was the candidates vision to strengthen the financial position of Grass Valley?’ The three had similar answers, but different examples. Other questions included ‘What should the city do when Measure N expires’, ‘what kind of development would the candidates like to see’, and ‘what qualifies the candidates to make tough decisions’?. The Council now has a tough decision and will consider the answers over the next two weeks and get responses from the public. They’ll choose the winning candidate at the next meeting, on February 24.
