Candidates for State and National Office to Speak At Election Forum

On September 2, the First Tuesday Educational Forum sponsored by the Nevada County Democratic Central Committee will feature a discussion and review of all state and national races and propositions on the November ballot. Betty Yee, Candidate for State Controller and Heidi Hall, candidate for US Congress in California’s First Congressional District will both appear in person.

Yee is the daughter of Chinese immigrants who settled in San Francisco. She grew up in a home where no English was spoken, yet graduated from UC Berkeley and went on to a become a distinguished expert on tax policy. She currently serves as one of five members on the California State Board of Equalization.

Hall, who makes her home in Nevada County, is a social progressive and fiscal moderate. She has masters degrees in both public policy and
international relations and employment experience with the California Department of Water Resources, the State Water Resources Control Board and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Hall is running against incumbent Republican, Doug LaMalfa.

The event will be held on Tuesday September 2, beginning with refreshments at 5:30 p.m. at the Banner Grange, 12629 McCourtney Rd., Grass Valley, about 1/2 mile past the the Fairgrounds.
