The United States dependency on foreign oil is an issue that the government is seeking to lessen by finding more energy resources on American soil. A viable, abundant source, but highly controversial because of alleged environmental impact, lies deep beneath the surface of the Earth in shale deposits and is released through a process called Fracking- hydraulic fracturing.
In a recent League of Women Voter’s Forum featuring House of Representative District 1 candidates, incumbent Doug LaMalfa supported Fracking while challenger Heidi Hall spoke against the process.
LaMalfa focused on economic benefits of Fracking.

Both LaMalfa and Hall agree that looking for energy resources within the United States is a better option that relying on foreign production- but they have opposite views on how to go about accessing the sources.

This is why I will vote for Heidi Hall. We don't need our tap water catching on fire, nor can we afford to waste the thousands upon thousands of water needed for fracking. We have the ability to develop renewable resources such as solar energy; as an example.
