Celebrate Safely on St. Patrick's day

Everybody may be Irish on St. Patrick’s Day but nobody should drive drunk after celebrating Ireland’s patron saint this Saturday, March 17th.  Grass Valley Police Captain Rex Marks says the Avoid the 5 Nevada county DUI Campaign will be deploying additional officers on overtime this weekend  focusing on drinking driver hotspots.  Captain Marks says last year in California  during the St Patrick’s Day period, three people were killed and 96 seriously injured in traffic crashed involving drunk drivers.  “These were not specific to the Nevada County area but we recognize that often times the condition of roads the weather and the intriduction of alcohol could make that a situation that could occur here in Nevada County.”
The avoid the 5 campaign suggests whether you are meeting a few friends at a local pub after work or attending a local event or party, if alcohol is part of the festivities, make sure you designate a sober driver, or contact a local taxi to get you home safely.
