Cemetery District Wins Award

The Nevada Cemetery District of Nevada County  has won the prestigious R.W. Thomas Award for Cemetery of the year for 2012.  District Manager Gary Plunkett and Board Chairman Dennis Cassella received the award at the Annual Conference of the Northern California Association of Public Cemeteries in Corning last week. Plunkett says the award recognizes all the hard work and planning that went into the recent creation of two lawn cemeteries in the district,  Deer Creek Cemetery on Red Dog road and Elster Cemetery off McCourtney Road.

The Nevada Cemetery District covers 600 square miles in Nevada county  and in the 27 cemeteries in the District,  about 65 acres of property  is   maintained  year round.
