Central Valley Couple Arrested After Chase From Reno

A Central Valley couple is in custody in Nevada County after being involved with a robbery and chase that began near Reno Nevada. Reno Police Officer Tim Broadway tells KNCO that 28 year old Keegan Vaughn of Modesto and 26 year old Crystal Rice of Turlock, were taken into custody after crashing their car on Highway 80 near the town of Floriston.
RiceVaughn1The incident began when an off-duty Reno police officer at Cabela’s Sporting Goods Store in Boomtown, recognized a female suspect from a robbery of the Sportsman’s Warehouse in Reno the night before where a large number of weapons were stolen.

Using information gleaned from other law enforcement agencies as well as security cameras a vehicle and suspect descriptions was sent out. The off duty officer spotted the vehicle at Cabela’s.

As the couple attempted to leave the store Reno Police arrived. A pursuit began and the couple accelerated to over 100 miles per hour on westbound Highway 80.

Truckee CHP became involved shortly after the suspect vehicle crossed into California. Near the Floriston exit the vehicle hit a median and crashed and the couple bailed on foot. Law enforcement set up a perimeter and were able to take Vaughn and Rice into custody. A search of there vehicle located over 20 weapons believed to be stolen from the Sportsman’s Warehouse as well as narcotics and paraphernalia.

Both Keegan Vaughn and Crystal Rice were booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility and booked on grand theft and related charges as well evading peace officers and narcotics charges. The couple will also face federal charges for transporting firearms across state lines.
