CHAMPS!

As you by now know I am a San Francisco Giants fan.  And I am one happy camper today.  However, this time it’s a different feeling.  In 2010 there was a giddiness, a certain disbelief, the feeling that a spell had been broken, this time justification and satisfaction are the two terms that sum up this Giants fan’s emotions.

This was a team that the elite east coast sports media had written off.  I know the Giants games are aired so late for these clowns, they might actually have to stay up after dark to watch them.  It seems to me that staying up and watching all the games is what they are paid to do isn’t it?  This World Series victory came as no surprise to me.  The sweep that was a real surprise, that the Giants handled the 7th best team in the American League – not so much.

A co-worker was relating about how their daughter was a Giants fan.  And it struck me how lucky she was.  In her lifetime, the Giants have been the best team in baseball 2 out of 3 years.  They have usually been flirting with the division lead, and have always had a team that was a contender.  She doesn’t have any frame of reference, like enduring a 100 loss season, or worse a season with 103 wins and NO post season!  (yet another reason to despise the Braves!)  Oh to be that young and un-jaded by the cold cruel world of baseball . . . . . . . . . .
