The changing of the guard in Grass valley Tuesday evening. Mayor Lisa Swarthout stepping away from the council after 25 years of service as a planning commissioner, council member and mayor as well as over two decades as a business owner in Grass Valley. Swarthout thanking city staff , other council members, and the community in general for their support over her tenure as a civic leader.
Swarthout also honoring Ed and Carol Thomas with the Mayor’s Award for their ongoing contributions to the city.
Howard Levine also leaving the council after 8 years of service. Levine also as years on the planning commission, and as the leader of the Downtown Association. New Mayor Ben Aguilar says Levine’s contributions to the city including his work in the arts and beautification of downtown will be remembered and enjoyed for years to come.
Howard is leaving the community choosing to move to Sacramento with his wife Posey to be closer to his adult children and their families as he moves on with life’s next adventure.
New council members Tom Ivy and Bob Brandstrom were sworn in as part of the meeting.
