A single subject that is allegedly a check thief, forger, and felon in possession of fire arms arrested in Grass Valley. Lt. Steve Johnson tells KNCO that Friday morning an ongoing investigation produced a suspect that had been stealing checks as far back as October.
Detectives learned that the suspect, identified as 30 year old Taylor Muendal of Grass Valley, had a fairly sophisticated operation in place.
On Friday detectives served a search warrant on Muendel’s Brighton Street residence.
In addition to the check washing material, Muendel was also in possession of a number of firearms.
All of the victims of the check fraud appear to be local to the Grass Valley area. Some of the victims may not even be aware that they are victims yet. Johnson says the investigation came to light when a victim checked their bank statement.
Muendel had already forged checks for more than 1000 dollars.
Muendel was booked into the Wayne brown Correctional Facility for commercial burglary, check forgery, possession of stolen checks, making fictitious checks, and being a felon in possession of firearms.
