A 57-year-old Chicago Park man has been severely burned after an explosives accident. His name has not been released but he is expected to survive. Nevada County Sheriff’s Sergeant Bob Jakobs says it happened at the man’s two-story home, on Old Stagecoach Road…
Jakobs says as fire personnel arrived to treat the man, they saw large amounts of materials for manufacturing illegal fireworks. When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they contacted an explosives ordnance detail from Placer County and the Sacramento County Sheriffs’ arson and bomb task force…
Due to the volatility of the chemicals found, along with additional materials for manufacturing the fireworks, the items were destroyed. Only a handful of ordnance was found, but investigators say there were large amounts of precursor chemicals and hardware. The Sheriff’s Department says they anticipate the case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
