All counties could eventually set up an online child abuse and neglect reporting system, under a bill moving easily through the Legislature. It would create a pilot program for certain counties that haven’t been selected yet. Nevada County’s Director of Social Services, Mike Dent, says larger, urban counties already have online systems, due to the long waits for callers. But says their hot line works very well…
But Dent says he hopes Nevada County can be part of the pilot program…
Dent says their allegation rate is 75 per-thousand, well above the state rate of 53. The number of reports submitted for investigation in Nevada County last year dropped by 235, from 2013, at 1083 cases. Dent says they found some sort of neglect or abuse in 22-percent of those reports.
