Chinese Year Of The Snake

This weekend Chinese New Years Celebrations are taking place in Nevada City. Nevada City was home to thousands of Chinese during the Gold Rush and the Chinese made significant contributions to benefit California in mining and construction of the Trans Continental Railroad. Executive Director of Community Asian Theater of the Sierras (CATS) Jeanie Wood, says this year is the Chinese Year of the Snake.

Woods says that means you will always have food to eat,  clothes to wear, and enough money to make ends meet. Woods also says that people born in the year of the snake have unique attributes.

Chinese New Year celebrations will be Sunday beginning at Robinson Plaza with Lion Dancing.

From Robinson Square the festivities move to the Stonehouse Building where there will be a plenty of activities for the whole family.”

The fun filled Chinese New Year Celebrations begin at noon on Sunday at Robinson Plaza at the foot of Commercial Street in Nevada City.
