CHP Gears Up For Holiday Weekend Surge

The local highway patrol office is also gearing up for what will be a much more traditional surge in Memorial Day Weekend traffic, compared to last year’s Stay At Home order. Statewide, the CHP made 854 arrests for impaired driving. Stephenson says the Highways 49, 20, and 174 are the main focus in the western county. And they expect to see a lot of out-of-town motorists looking for somewhat less hot temperatures, compared to the valley, with the first major heatwave of the season also occurring later in the weekend…

Statewide, the Highway Patrol says 31 people died in a crash during last year’s holiday weekend. And 78-percent weren’t wearing a seatbelt.
