CHP Officer Injured, But May Have Saved Worker

A Highway Patrol officer in the Auburn area suffered minor injuries in a crash, but should also be regarded as a hero. At around 11:30 this morning (Tuesday) on Interstate 80 near Ophir Road, a Caltrans worker was stopped on the right shoulder to retrieve some debris from the right lane. An 86 year-old Auburn woman driving a Subaru was headed right toward the worker, and not slowing down. CHP Public Information Officer Dave Martinez says a patrol officer was approaching the scene…

Martinez says the case is still under investigation, but the woman had not been using drugs or drinking, and likely just wasn’t paying attention. The Caltrans worker could have been severely injured, or maybe even killed, if the Highway Patrol officer hadn’t intervened.
