The development of a COSTCO store in the Auburn area is still in the works. The proposed development site is acreage that Placer County owns near the DeWitt Administrative Center. Placer County has been negotiating with the Big Box Store on a lease of that property, but attorney Michael Colantuono who represents the City of Auburn says that may be premature.
Coluntuono says one of the concerns for the City of Auburn is that the EIR should have been completed before the lease was granted.
The City of Auburn is preparing to flex it’s legal muscle if Placer County does not consider the economic and traffic impacts to the City of Auburn.
That meeting never happened, but Colantuono says with the threat of litigation that could change.
The Auburn City Council meets January 12th a week from Monday.
Auburn mayor Keith Nesbitt told the Auburn Journal, quote, “this isn’t just about Costco, it’s about all the stores that follow them around.”
